History

St. Francis de Sales College is manned by the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) of South West India Province, who firmly believe that 'the education of the heart is the heart of education' hailed by its founder Fr. Peter Marie Mermier. The MSFS Fathers have nearly two centuries of experience and expertise in imparting quality higher education in every continent of the world. The MSFS Fathers are optimistically committed to forming the 'Future world citizens' through more than 160 quality educational institutions in India.

The college is named after St. Francis de Sales, the patron of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, who considered, knowledge as the eighth sacrament. We believe that true education is directed towards the formation of the human personality for the good of the society. Hence, we aim to motivate the young to strive for excellence and to become integrated persons who willingly shoulder the responsibility for building a just and humane society. Thus SFS College befits everyone's educational requirements, particularly of the backward classes and the less privileged sections of the rural belt of Rural Bengaluru.

St. Francis de Sales College is a minority institution with a secular outlook. Fr. Jose Parappillil MSFS, the Provincial along with his Council in 2003 envisioned to begin a College at Hebbagodi, Electronics City, Bangalore, which can cater to the people of Anekal, a SC constituency. People of this taluk used to find it hard to send their youth to the city colleges that would charge them exuberantly. Besides, the parents were afraid of their ward's attendance, travel troubles and other intricacies that endanger common student's life. Hence, it was high time to respond to the needs of the people and a committee was appointed in view of the same. The Council took this decision taking into consideration that the MSFS Congregation had about 45 years of its presence in Hebbagodi. This area held high potential for an educational institution of higher learning. The Core Committee presented its findings at the meeting of the Planning cum Organizing Committee held on 17 August 2003 at Mermier Bhavan. After much discussion and deliberation the Committee recommended to go ahead with St. Francis de Sales College to be started in June 2004 with the motto Excellence, Transformation and Efficiency. The College was affiliated to Bangalore University, one of the largest State Universities in India.

The college had a humble beginning with 09 students, taking SFS boys home as a launching pad and Fr. Anthony Swamy MSFS as its first principal and Fr. Wilson Kottam MSFS as its first manager. Prof. Shripathi, a retired professor from Kamaraj University, Madurai, helped in coordinating academic matters. Fr Anthony Swamy, the principal, toiled hard for more than 8 years to bring the college to its present status. It was with the help of Fr. Dr. James Manjackal MSFS, a renowned global preacher, who financed the present infrastructure, that the college could come to what it is today in all its pomp and glory. The College was graded "A" by the NAAC team for its excellent educational track as well as infrastructure and quality in May 2015. In the academic year 2016 the college received its permission for Post graduation Courses. Another milestone added to the Desalites’ Path with the stern efforts of Fr. Dr. Herold Christopher MSFS. Five P G Courses were introduced i.e., M Sc- Psychology, MA – English, MA – Mass Communication and Journalism, M Com, M Com- finance and Accounts. The institution also began a Centre for counselling and research with an aim of helping the needy children with counselling and therapy. In the academic year 2017 the college received permission to begin Pure science at Undergraduate level. Now the college has B Sc (PCM), Bsc (MEC), BBA, BA – Journalism, psychology, sociology, political science, history, Economics and Optional English, B Com – finance and Accounts, B com – Travel and tourism. The college also has an evening college to cater to the working youth and to educate them. Many certificate courses are introduced for the benefit of the students. Now with all these new things introduced the college is getting ready to be an autonomous college in the near future.
