SESSION ON FIBRE OPTICS AND APPLICATION LAYER: 14 & 19 DECEMBER - DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

The Department of Computer Applications organized a session on motivation on 14 th and 19 th December for BCA III and V Sem students. Ms. Mahalakshmi G shared her experience in Computer Networks on the topic fibre optics & application layer and inspired the students in this session.

Mahalakshmi G works as Subject Matter Expert at NetApp with over 6 years of experience in Data Storage Industry. She holds Bachelor of Engineering degree majored in Computer Science and Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. She is part of NetApp ONTAP Product Management team. Currently She is focussing on various cases such as Data storage Automation and Tools portfolio via REST APIs, NAS storage and Manageability SDK. Mahalakshmi is one of the Key NetApp Insight Technical Speaker and Discussion leader at NetApp Briefing Centre.

Fibre optics is the technology used by internet services such as Verizon Fios home internet to transmit information as pulses of light through strands of fibre made of glass or plastic over long distances. And She gave a wonderful session on Fiber Optics by explaining in depth about what is it? How is it implemented? And how does it work etc. Also, she gave a session on Application layer, is an abstraction layer that specifies the shared communications protocols and interface methods used by hosts in a communications network. Her points were on to the point, too clear and up to the mark. On the whole, it was too technical but made the magical mindset on our young ones.
