EXTENSION ACTIVITY – OUTREACH PROGRAM: 9 FEBRUARY 2022 -
DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES
The Department of Humanities as a part of extension activity, visited an NGO at Deepahalli
named REDS which stands for Ragpickers Education and Development Scheme. REDS
(Ragpickers Education & Development Scheme) is to empower uneducated and waste-
picking children from the streets of Bangalore and Ranchi. REDS was initiated by an Inter-
religious Dialogue Group. REDS established as an organization with support of Bangalore
Multi-purpose Social Society Service (BMSSS). Later, Marianist Trust, a registered
charitable trust took over REDS from BMSSS.
The main aim of the visit is to mainly educate the students and the children at the NGO about
the adoption of good norms for a good citizenship and to inculcate into the people’s mind
ideals of unity. As part of extension activity, the students from final year BA were a part of it.
Students gained a lot of exposure at the NGO and were involved with the children for various
indoor activities. The final year students were allowed to visit the NGO for training the
children at the NGO in various educational based assignments which will boost the
knowledge to an extent. They were allowed to visit the NGO for field work for the children in
teaching them basics in English and Mathematics. As part of the training, they were given
certificates to encourage them to undertake such projects in the future.
