DEBATE ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS IMPROVING COMMUNICATION OR IMPEDING
COMMUNICATION: 20 NOVEMBER 2021 - DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
A debate activity was conducted on the topic ‘‘Social media is improving communication or impeding
communication’’ for the final year students of Department of Business administration on 20 th November 2021. The activity was moderated by Prof. Rakshitha G for 3 rd year BBA students.
The objective of this activity was to enable the students to analyse on what is social media, its
advantages and disadvantages. The debate started with the groups engaging themselves talking for the
topic and eventually the group against the topic picked up the discussion and debated against it. The
points jotted down by the students were very enlightening. The students concluded that any new
technology is made for good, but how we make use of it lies in our hands.
This activity enhanced the assets like leadership qualities, communication skills and thinking ability. Students were able to test their knowledge relevance towards the topic. They were given stage time to overcome the fear of being on spotlight. Exposure about how the presentations should be given and their improvement areas were identified. The overall enthusiasm from the students was appreciated at the end of the debate.
