Online Awareness Program on Novel Corona Virus (Covid-19) – April 05, 2020

An Online Awareness Program on Novel Corona Virus (Covid-19) was organized by the NSS volunteers of St. Francis De Sales College on 05 April, 2020 at 5 pm to sensitize people about the deadly global pandemic that has claimed thousands of lives across the globe.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Gananatha Shetty, State NSS officer and Joint Secretary to Government of Karnataka. He asserted that precaution is better than cure and urged everyone to take necessary precautionary measures to stay safe from Corona virus infection.

The keynote speakers of the event were Dr. Poornima Jogi, State NSS Implementation Officer, State NSS Cell, Government of Karnataka and Dr. N. Satish Gowda, Coordinator NSS, Bangalore University. Dr. Jogi discussed the impact of this global pandemic on the society and the world and the precautionary measures to be taken to safeguard ourselves from this deadly viral infection. She urged everyone to wash hands with soap or handwash for at least 20 seconds, disinfect the surface in our home or workplace and to cover our mouth while sneezing and coughing.

Dr. N. Satish shared necessary information about the prevention and spread of Covid-19. He emphasized the importance of social distancing to ward off this deadly virus. He suggested simple tips to fight the virus like using hand sanitizer, masks and cleaning or washing the materials that have been bought from shops.

The session was presided by Rev. Fr. Dr. Roy PK., Principal, St. Francis De Sales College. He insisted that everyone must unite to strengthen the fight against Covid-19 by practising social distancing in public places, washing hands frequently and last but not the least, staying indoors. He asserted that 'awareness is safety', hence, he applauded the efforts of the NSS volunteer in organizing this online awareness program.

Prof. Karibasavana Gowda, NSS Program Officer, delivered the vote of thanks. At the end of the session everyone isolated, yet together, pledged to fight against Covid-19, by staying at home, following government instructions and taking necessary precautions.
