“CURIOSITY AND LOVE OF LEARNING”: 3 MARCH 2022 - PSYLIGHT CLUB, DEPARTMENT OF
PSYCHOLOGY (PG)
Psylight Club, Association of the Postgraduate Department of Psychology conducted a
session on “Curiosity and love of Learning” for the students on 3 March 2022 at 11:40 am.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr Mamatha K, Assistant Professor, Department
of Psychology, Postgraduate Centre. The session was conducted for both first semester and
third semester students of Psychology.
Love of learning is a disposition to seek out new experiences and novel opportunities for
learning. Love of learning increases curiosity and helps overcome boredom and monotony.
Objective of the event was to help the students understand the importance of nurturing and
cultivating the love of learning in their lives. Students took part in the activity with a lot of
energy and enthusiasm.
Prof Mamatha explained to the students that the love of learning is highest in a child and as
children, everyone seeks to explore and understand the world around them. But as we grow
older, this love of learning tends to reduce and we restrict ourselves to what we have learned
earlier and applying that to our day-to-day lives. Post this, students were made to split into
two groups and a debate followed. Students participated with a lot of vigour and enthusiasm
in the activity. The resource person concluded the session with a remark that it is important
for every individual to nurture their love of learning throughout their life.
