MAHAPARINIRVAN DIVAS - 66 TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. B R AMBEDKAR: 6
DECEMBER 2021 - AMBEDKAR STUDY CENTER IN COLOBORATION WITH SC/ST AND OBC
CELLS
India observes 6 th December as Mahaparinirvan Divas every year to mark the death anniversary of Dr
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, who fought for economic and social empowerment of Dalits in the
country. Fondly remembered as Babasaheb, he was also among the seven members of the “drafting
committee” who prepared a draft of the Constitution of the independent India. On that day, St.
Francis De Sales College has organised a tribute program to Dr. B R Ambedkar on their 66 th death
anniversary under the collaboration of Ambedkar Study centre and SC/ST and OBC cells. The
program was organised by Dr. Shantharaju - coordinator of Ambedkar Study Centre and Prof. Kavya
Shree coordinator of SC/ST and OBC cell.
Known for his great influence in India in eradicating the social scourge of untouchability, Ambedkar
also served as the Minister of Law and Justice in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru from 1947 to
1951. Babasaheb Ambedkar dedicated most of his life to empowering and voicing concerns for the
downtrodden. He also played a crucial role in promoting gender equality. Apart from drafting the
Constitution, Babasaheb played a significant role in the formation of the Reserve Bank of India. The
Central bank was formed on the concept presented by Babasaheb to the Hilton Young Commission.
On this day Rev. Fr. Dr. Roy - Principal, and Rev Father Jijo Jose, Vice Principal were invited as a chief
guests to commemorate the 66 th death anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar. The words of Principal – Fr.
Roy inspired the students to contemplate Dr. B R Ambedkar as an exemplar and to follow the
footsteps of Babasaheb. The Chief guests along with cells and committee coordinators lightened the
candles and showered the flowers and honoured his unfathomable contribution to society and his
achievements. The event continued with a documentary – Bharath Bhagya Vidhatha of Dr. B R
Ambedkar for one and half hour in which his life history, his achievements are shown to the students
of the college.
