Visit to an Organic Farm: 12 March 2021 - Desalite Farmers Friendly Association (DFFA)

An initiative was taken by the DFFA- Desalite Farmers Friendly Association of St Francis de Sales College taken on 12 th March of 2021 for the students of the science stream to visit an organic farm. The farm belonged to Mr. Mahesh A, the farmer who has received Yuva Raitha award 2020, Bangalore district where in the chief minister was the chief guest. He is also a member of “ತರಕಾರಿ ಬೆಳೆಗಾರರ ಸಂಘ “ Mayasandhra. The students of our college got an opportunity to meet this farmer and to learn about organic farming and many aspects of farming practically. As he is into commercial farming, students got a very decent idea about it and the difference between normal and commercial crops. He thought students how to balance between the crops as some yield high income and some not so much. Further, mechanism of trapping the insects without using pesticides and insecticides and the use of solar insect trapper which traps the insects without harming the crops was introduced to them. He stressed how important it is to educate the farmers and about the schemes the government offers. The faculty members felicitated the Mr. Mahesh A and thanked him for giving an opportunity to learn about organic farming and many aspects of farming practically. This was truly a unique experience fro the students and faculty.
