SAMVADA 2021- Student National Seminar on ‘Gender, Labour and Migration in India’: June 4,

The Department of Humanities in association with Research and IP Cell, Department of Psychology
and Economics (PG) organised Student National Seminar on June 4, 2021 for UG and PG students.
The theme for this year was ‘Gender, Labour and Migration in India’ and sub-themes were designed
to understand the theme of the seminar from various dimensions and also focused on the various
disciplines of humanities.
Dr J Vanitha was the resource person for this seminar. She’s currently serving as an Assistant
Professor at Loyola College, Chennai. Over the course of her time, she has undertaken many projects
and her on going one is “Availability and Accessibility of Government Welfare Measures: A Case
Study of Transgender Community in Tamil Nadu” funded by ICSSR-IMPRESS Project.
The keynote speaker gave a conceptual framework on the theme of the seminar by focusing on
three separate concepts i.e., women, gender and migration. Speaker also focused on correlation of
these concepts and issues involved with it. With the onset of the technical session, a total of 33
research papers were presented by the students across India through the online platform. The
seminar successfully attained its aim by providing platform for student scholars to discuss the
different dimensions of women issues. Moreover, it gave a strong platform for the students to
involve in research and understand how to present the research paper.
