Panel Discussion: Peer to Peer Interaction on Anti-Drug Addiction: June 26, 2021 - Dept. of
Psychology (PG)
On 26 June 1987, United Nations (UN), General Assembly decided to observe international day
against
Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. From that day onwards every year 26th of June, is celebrated as
Anti-Drug Day. With the intention of training students and also having an awareness about anti-drug
addiction PsyLight Club planned to host Panel Discussion on the topic Anti-Drug Addiction. To make
the session more attractive, unique and interesting, Psychology students from UG and PG were
selected to be panellists. Prof. Mamatha, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Psychology initiated the event.
The event was planned on 26 th June from 2.30 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. 68 students had registered for the
event. First Panellist, Ms Priyanka highlighted about different types of drugs and usage. Ms. Boomika
emphasized on the symptoms of drug addiction. Ms. Pradeepa spoke about the effects of drugs. Ms.
Ambika explained the causes of drug addiction. Ms. Meril gave a detailed explanation about the
treatments available for drug addiction, ways and techniques used and importance of treatment for
drug addiction. Ms. Maria Binu spoke about the governmental and social measures in helping people
overcome from addiction and lead a better life. Ms. Navya concluded by emphasizing on the
individual measures to be taken to prevent drug addiction. The outstanding execution of the
program was the proof of success of steps taken to have holistic growth and development among
Desalites.
