INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO INSTITUTE OF BIOINFORMATICS AND APPLIED BIOTECHNOLOGY: 2 SEPTEMBER 2022 – DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Department of Science organized an Industrial Visit to Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology Electronic City, Bangalore on 2 September 2022 for the first year BSc students. A team of 61 students along with 3 faculty members visited the institute set up by the Department of IT, BT and ST, Government of Karnataka.

IBAB has been a Centre of Excellence for Research and Training in Bioinformatics of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India It has several state of the art facilities to its bioinformatics and biotechnology laboratories to enhance its training and research capabilities. IBAB also hosts GANIT Labs, a multi-institutional public-private partnership under the aegis of Department of Electronics and IT, Government of India, and Department of IT, BT and ST, Government of Karnataka, that works in the area of genome sequencing and data analysis.

The visit helped the students to know about the various aspects of bioinformatics as well as an insight into the research and development activities in biotechnology. The chemistry students of our college got an idea regarding research lab after visiting the DNA sequencing and biochemistry labs. Even though the terminology used to the computer science students were a little tough for them to understand, they could recognise the application of computer science in the field bioinformatics.
