ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Masters in Psychology is the need of the hour. The psychological assistance and guidance has been identified in all sectors and has increased the demand for skilled professionals in the field. The present curricula has been framed based on the requirement of skilled professionals in the field of Psychology. The syllabus includes a detailed theoretical and practical training in a wide range of specializations (Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology and Industrial & Organizational Psychology). The specializations would enhance knowledge to be eligible for employment in the field of education, clinical/hospital, rehabilitation set up, organizations in the capacity of psychologists, counsellor, psychometricians, trainers, facilitators in corporate development process and also pursue research independently. Students would be equipped to prepare and fare well in competitive examinations conducted by UGC/NTA/ ICSSR/State and Central civil service boards etc. The course has been redesigned with emphasis not only on the syllabi but also on the co-curricular activities such as seminars, presentations, assignments, that would be out of the syllabi and constitute a part of the internal assessment.

Project work in the second semester:

Since the students would study psychometry in the first semester, the second semester project work would be based on group field work. Each group would work on designing/developing a psychological tool. The evaluation of the same would constitute presentation by the group, the project report and viva voce examination. Internship and dissertation in the fourth semester: Internship and dissertation would be individual work based on topics in the area of interest. The evaluation of internship and dissertation would be based on report and individual viva voce examination.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates who have completed 3 Year Course under graduation course with Psychology as a subject, from a college recognized by Bangalore University or its equivalent as notified by the Government from time to time, are eligible to seek admission for this programme. The students of other states and foreign countries are eligible in accordance with state and central government guidelines from time to time.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND DURATION

The programme is for Two (02) years consisting of Four Semesters altogether. A candidate shall complete his/her degree within four (04) academic years from the date of his/her admission to the first semester. A Student who successfully completes Two (02) years of the programme will be awarded a Master's Degree in Psychology (M.Sc) by Bangalore University.

PROMOTION

A candidate who has obtained a minimum of 35% marks in End Semester examination and an aggregate of 40% marks in each subject shall be eligible for a pass or exemption in that subject.

HISTORY
Many in the world have a different attitude towards History. For some it is a story that everyone has learn with names and dates. For some it is a boring subject. Whereas for some it is one of the interesting subjects that is available to rectify the course of life as lessons are taught from the pages of history. Science forgets that it is history that keeps the record of scientists. Commerce forgets that for the present situation to be understood history comes to its aid. The importance of history cannot be denied at any point of human life and time. The Desalites History association has its annual visitations to various historical places across India. It also invites the students to have the hobby of writing everyday journal so as to get interested to become future historians.

ECONOMICS
Economics is a study of human being in connection with his business. One must know how one uses the resources available at one’s possession to live and to prosper. The person who knows how to manage one’s finance knows how to live and let live. Come learn how to carefully handle your resource.

POLITICAL SCIENCE
Political science is a systematic study and presentation about another realm of institution which runs and maintains any state or a country. Politics is part and parcel of human existence. People have the understanding that an order should be followed for peaceful existence and Political bodies are expected to do this job. Knowledge of political order is an added advantage for any student. Most welcome for the systematic study of this subject.

SOCIOLOGY
A systematic study of human being, culture, traditions, life styles and human bindings would be called sociology. It is an interesting subject that throws light on various institutions that have evolved in the society such as marriage, family, village, town and all others. Anyone who begins to study these topics would gain much more knowledge about oneself in relationship with society. Know thyself!

PSYCHOLOGY
A systematic study of mind and behaviour could be called as psychology. The varied aspects that we learn about human being right from the womb to tomb is so essential for society. Psychology has gained ground in today’s world. At every place of work, industries, educational institutes and other institutions of importance where work force is involved, the presence of a counsellor is must. Family counselling, youth counselling and child counselling are some of the areas where psychology is very much in demand. There is no loss in taking up this course as the future is bright for those who embrace this course with utmost interest and care.

JOURNALISM
The Department of Journalism equips the students to learn the skills required to win the challenges of communication in the 21st century. The goal is to empower students with technological knowledge and trains them with skills required to communicate, which creates exciting career paths. The course enables the students to explore the theories and applications of media in various situations. The academic programmes are designed by Bangalore University. In order to support creative and young minds, the Department also offers various certificate and add on courses to be empowered for the “Modern Infotainment world”.

OPTIONAL ENGLISH
Are you a person interested in reading between the lines? Are you good at appreciating even the very common aspects of anything and everything? Then this course is for you. English Literature has earmarks to explore the great variety of literary pieces of writing in English from across the globe that covers traditional genres and literary periods. Literature is a deep and broad ocean like subject that enables you to take a fresh look at familiar texts and encounter new text. Besides Literature, the syllabus offers linguistic skills in the frame ‘Facets of Language’. The globe demands people to communicate in English effectively. In the view of enhancing the communicative skills of the students, the areas like vocabulary, pronunciation, verbal expressions, speech sounds in English, the structure of words and sentences, speech and writing, stylistic analysis and many more are offered improve Communicative English and gain confidence.

3. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
4. Transfer Certificate.
5. Passport size photographs in formal dress - 06
6. Caste Certificate (if applicable)

Non- Karnataka Students
1. Class X or SSLC Marks Card.
2. PUC or +2 or Class XII or Equivalent Marks Card (I & II Year)
3. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
4. Transfer Certificate
5. Migration Certificate.
6. Passport size photographs in formal dress - 06
7. Caste and Income Certificate (if applicable).

Foreign Students
1. Mark Statements of respective country equivalent to Higher Secondary.
2. Testimonial
3. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
4. 10 passport size photographs in formals (latest).
5. Birth Certificate.
6. Residential Certificate from their country.
7. Provisional Eligibility Certificate.
8. Valid Student Visa. 9. Copy of passport attested by Gazetted Officer.

Incomplete Applications will not be processed.
• The Applicant should be personally present for Admission along with the Parent / Guardian.
• The candidate should satisfy all other conditions set by Bangalore University.
• After the counselling/interview, the candidates selected shall be enrolled after the payment of fee as per the fee structure. Final Admission is subject to the University's approval.
• No Transfer from one discipline to any other is permitted.

Conditions pertaining to submission of documents
• At the time of admission, candidates must submit all the original documents, copies and other relevant documents as well as a hard copy of the completed application form.
• Students should ensure that they keep a photocopy of the documents for themselves before submitting the same to the Academic Office/Admission Department.
• The original documents submitted will be returned to the students only after the university registration or at the end of the program.
• In order to take back these documents, student must produce the documents' acknowledgement receipt received during the time of admission.

1.NGO Visit


To provide students with practical exposure to real-world social challenges and enhance their life skills, MA Economics students visited an NGO. This visit allowed them to understand the organizational processes, challenges faced by marginalized communities, and the role of economic policies in improving societal outcomes. Through interactions with NGO professionals and beneficiaries, students developed a deeper understanding of social issues and gained hands-on learning experience


2.Extension Activity During Christmas Break


As part of their commitment to community development, students engaged in extension activities during the Christmas break. These activities included volunteering at local community centers. This initiative helped students enhance their understanding of grassroots-level challenges while building a sense of responsibility and engagement with societal issues.


3.Internships at Law Firms, Panchayat Offices, and MNCs


To provide diverse professional experiences, students undertook internships at law firms, panchayat offices, and multinational corporations.

At law firms, students learned about legal frameworks, contract management, and economic regulations.

In panchayat offices, they gained insights into local governance, public finance, and policy implementation.

Internships in MNCs equipped them with skills in corporate finance, project management, and global business practices.
These internships allowed students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, improving their professional and analytical skills.


4. SPSS Orientation Session


To familiarize students with statistical tools and techniques, an SPSS orientation session was conducted. This session provided hands-on training in data input, analysis, and interpretation using SPSS software. Students gained practical skills essential for research and data-driven decision-making, enhancing their academic and professional competencies.


5.Interdisciplinary Activities


A series of interdisciplinary activities were organized to develop a well-rounded skill set among students:

Canva Training:
A session on designing impactful presentations and digital content.

Spoken English Workshop:
Focused on improving communication skills and fluency.

Goal Setting Session:
Motivational guidance to help students set and achieve academic and professional aspirations.

Interview Skills Workshop:
Included mock sessions and personalized feedback to prepare students for interviews.

CV-Making Session:
Offered practical advice on creating professional resumes to enhance employability. These sessions equipped students with essential soft skills, boosting their confidence and career readiness.

Club and Cultural Activities

Students actively participated in various club and cultural activities, fostering creativity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. Events such as debates, quizzes, and cultural programs provided opportunities for peer learning, collaboration, and talent showcasing.
