Founder
Fr. Peter Marie Mermier, founder of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS), was a visionary leader born in rural Savoy, France, on 28 August 1790. His early life in a devout household laid a strong foundation of faith, which inspired him to pursue the priesthood. Deeply concerned with the social and spiritual challenges following the French Revolution, Fr. Mermier felt called to renew Christian communities. He was known for his unwavering commitment to missions, famously declaring, “I want missions.” This passion led him to preach tirelessly, educate communities, and bring a renewed spirit of faith to those affected by the social climate of the time.
