History & Milestones


St. Francis de Sales College (Autonomous), popularly known as SFS College, is one of the leading Institutions of Higher Education in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Founded in 2004 with the vision of Excellence, Efficiency, and Transformation, the College is run by the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) of the South West India Province, also known as Fransalians.

Guided by the inspirational vision of their Founder, Fr. Peter Marie Mermier, who said, “The education of the heart is the heart of education,” the Fransalians, have been imparting high quality education across the world for nearly two centuries. Deeply committed to forming the future world citizens, the MSFS Fathers run over 200 educational institutions in India and abroad today.

St. Francis de Sales College is NAAC accredited with an “A” Grade, AICTE Approved, and ISO certified. The College has the 2(f) & 12(b) recognition by UGC, to receive grants and research projects from UGC and non-UGC sources. It is a Minority Institution, but open to students from all walks of life. Affiliated to Bangalore University and having become Autonomous in 2024, the College offers several degree programs at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels under various disciplines. The College was established in response to the educational needs of the Hebbagodi area, near Electronics City, by the MSFS Congregation, who had been active in the region since 1969. Beginning with 9 students in 2004, SFS College has since grown into a vibrant community of over 2,600 students. The College boasts an inclusive environment with a diverse representation of languages, cultures, and religions. Today, SFS College remains a progressive platform for quality education, with a focus on research, innovation, and the holistic development of students.

Timeline of Milestones



1969-2004

1969

The Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) established a presence in Hebbagodi, near Electronics City, Bengaluru, providing primary and high school education to the local community.

2003

The vision for St. Francis de Sales College was conceived by the then Provincial, Fr. Jose Parappillil, MSFS, with the intention of meeting the demand for higher education in Hebbagodi.

2004

St. Francis de Sales College was officially founded with 9 students. It was affiliated with Bangalore University, with Rev. Dr. Anthony Swamy, MSFS, as the first Principal and Fr. Wilson Kottam, MSFS, as the first Manager. Fr. James Manjackal, MSFS, contributed financially to the initial infrastructure.

2005 - 2018

2005-2013

Rev. Dr. Thomas Kalariparambil, MSFS, served as Manager. Fr. Jino Plathottathil, MSFS, and Fr. Manu Kumbidiamakkal, MSFS, served briefly as Principals in 2012.

2012

Under the leadership of Principal Rev. Fr. Benny Marangolil, MSFS, the College achieved its first NAAC Accreditation with an “A” Grade.

2015

Rev. Dr. Christopher Crasta, MSFS, was appointed Principal and introduced the College’s first Post Graduate Programs.

2018

Rev. Dr. Roy Plathottam, MSFS, became Principal, overseeing infrastructure expansion and the introduction of an MBA program with AICTE approval.

2023-2024

2023

Rev. Dr. Binu Edathumparambil, MSFS, took over as Principal. The College was established as a research center for Commerce, with its first batch of doctoral students in Commerce beginning in October.

2024

SFS College attained Autonomous status, officially announced by the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thawarchand Gehlot, with a ceremony attended by key dignitaries.

2024

The College achieved “A” Grade accreditation for the second NAAC cycle.

2024

The College commenced doctoral research activities with its first Commerce Ph.D. scholars.
