Journalism:
The Department of Journalism equips the students to learn the skills required to win the challenges of communication in the 21st century. The goal is to empower students with technological knowledge and trains them with skills required to communicate, which creates exciting career paths. The course enables the students to explore the theories and applications of media in various situations.

The academic programmes are designed by Bangalore University. In order to support creative and young minds, the Department also offers various certificate and add on courses to be empowered for the “Modern Infotainment world”.

Psychology:
A systematic study of mind and behaviour could be called as psychology. The varied aspects that we learn about human being right from the womb to tomb is so essential for society. Psychology has gained ground in today’s world. At every place of work, industries, educational institutes and other institutions of importance where work force is involved, the presence of a counsellor is must. Family counselling, youth counselling and child counselling are some of the areas where psychology is very much in demand. There is no loss in taking up this course as the future is bright for those who embrace this course with utmost interest and care.

History:
Many in the world have a different attitude towards History. For some it is a story that everyone has learn with names and dates. For some it is a boring subject. Whereas for some it is one of the interesting subjects that is available to rectify the course of life as lessons are taught from the pages of history. Science forgets that it is history that keeps the record of scientists. Commerce forgets that for the present situation to be understood history comes to its aid. The importance of history cannot be denied at any point of human life and time. The Desalite History association has its annual visitations to various historical places across India. It also invites the students to have the hobby of writing everyday journal so as to get interested to become future historians.

Sociology
A systematic study of human being, culture, traditions, life styles and human bindings would be called sociology. It is an interesting subject that throws light on various institutions that have evolved in the society such as marriage, family, village, town and all others. Anyone who begins to study these topics would gain much more knowledge about oneself in relationship with society. Man now thyself.

Optional English
Are you a person interested in reading between the lines? Are you good at appreciating even the very common aspects of anything and everything? Then this course is for you.

English Literature has earmarks to explore the great variety of literary pieces of writing in English from across the globe that covers traditional genres and literary periods. Literature is a deep and broad ocean like subject that enables you to take a fresh look at familiar texts and encounter new text.

The Optional English core paper offered by the Dept., of BA in the combination JPE, the first year course modules aim at promoting interest in Literature with special reference to the literary texts from Chaucer to Romantics ( British Literature). The research and critical thinking skills of the students are tapped with the aid of selection of poems, essays, novels and dramas. The course covers text almost all the best known, loved and read writers like Chaucer, Spenser, John Milton, John Donne, Francis Bacon and the list is countless.

The second year papers cover a predominant period of Literature, tracing from late 19th century Victorian and Modern Age with the prominent writers. The most widely read books of Tennyson, Browning, G.M. Hopkins, W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens talking about the causes and effects of industrial revolution. The 4th semester American Literature, being shaped by the history of the country that produced it, is idealistic and realistic. The literature is closely knotted with American political discussions and culture with a special reference to Afro American writers too. The American writers were influenced by the Transcendentalist movement. The movement focuses on the strength and inherent purity present within the individual. The literary contributions of Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Tennessee Williams throw much light on nature, democratic state, history of ethnic and race relations, gender politics and many more.

The final year paper, Literatures of India of both the semesters, introduce students to the developments in contemporary Indian Literatures. Indian English Literature has attained an independent status in the realm of world literature. Wide range of themes like reflection on Indian culture, tradition, social values and even history through the depiction of life. The students have been given an opportunity to explore the worlds of Kalidasa and Tagore in terms of spiritual aspects in accordance with nature. The Bhakthi Movement enforces the doctrine of monotheism and attempting to bring the world unified. The novel of Mulkraj Anand portrays the mysterious life of the downtrodden society – the Untouchables. The political history of India – Nehru era has been well depicted in the drama Tughlaq by Girish Karnad, the living legend. The translated works of the reputed Kannada poets also hallmark the fame of Indian Literatures. Notable works of Ezekiel, K. Satchidanandan, Sudir kakar, Laithambika Antharjanam, Mahesh Dattani, Mahaswetha Devi provide a platform to the students to explore the psychological horizons of human nature. The literatures from Dalit and North – Eastern India proffer a scope to enrich the political knowledge of the contemporary society.

European and Non –European literature of both the semesters, also covers an exemplary range from Homer to Anna Akhmatova, Sophocles to Anton Chekov and Sartre to Kafka. The papers introduce the students to the world of Postcolonial literature and Theory. The literature refers to writing subjected to European colonization showing distinct signs being affected by the imperial process from the moment of colonization to the present day. Colonialism, often linked with capitalism, attempts to counteract the resulting alienation of the indigenous people from their surroundings by restoring a connection between indigenous people and places through description, narration and dramatization.

Besides Literature, the first and second year syllabus offers linguistic skills in the frame ‘Facets of Language’. The globe demands people to communicate in English effectively. In the view of enhancing the communicative skills of the students, the areas like vocabulary, pronunciation, verbal expressions, speech sounds in English, the structure of words and sentences, speech and writing, stylistic analysis and many more are offered improve Communicative English and gain confidence.

Political Science:
Political science is a systematic study and presentation about another realm of institution which runs and maintains any state or a country. Politics is part and parcel of human existence. People have the understanding that an order should be followed for peaceful existence and Political bodies are expected to do this job. Knowledge of political order is an added advantage for any student. Most welcome for the systematic study of this subject.
