The 1st Kick for Unity Football Tournament

The Northeast Desalite Association (NEDA) organized the 1ST KICK FOR UNITY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT under the motto ‘Kick for the Unity of the 8’ in St. Francis de Sales College, Bangalore on 26th March, 2016.

The name and motto of the tournament itself defines the main objective of the tournament. The tournament focused on bringing together all the northeast football players across the city of Bengaluru not only to play the beautiful game but also to acknowledge all north east people staying here in Bangalore city. Kicking the ball and enjoy the game to bring unity among the brothers and sisters of the eight states of the northeast India was the main aim of the tournament.

With Mr. L. Joseph, the manager of Biocon Limited as the Chief Guest and Fr. Dr. Herold Christopher Crasta, the principal of SFS College as the president of the event were happily preent for the opening ceremony, the tournament kick-off between Maya FC and YD FC of women category.

With women teams from as far as Chennai, Tamil Nadu state and Coorg district of Karnataka, ten teams each from both the categories participated and made the 5-a-aside football tournament a grand success.

The final match for women category was played between Maya FC and BU FC ended with 1-4 in favour of BU FC. SFS Team A scored 5-1 against Aloha and claimed the Championship title for the men category. Thirteen year old Smrutimaye of Chennai FC was awarded as the Emerging Player of the tournament.

Big thanks to Mr. Limison Sangma, Hon’ble MLA, Meghalaya and Miss Laishram Praveena Devi for sponsoring a sum of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively for the "Kick for Unity" tournament. Mr. Kabidim Pamei, the President of NEDA expressed his heartfelt thanks to the organizing committee, college, and sponsors of the tournament for the success of the tournament.

The tournament concluded with the award distribution to all winners by Fr. Dr. Christopher.
